General Meeting Minutes

October 9, 2017

Present:  Barbara Kemp, Teresa Vaughn, Dawn and Joe Humbertson, Dan Failacci, Jaclyn Smith, Traci Poppert, Trish Abell, Dana Cummingham, Beth White, Kathy Higinbotham, Kim Stevens, Alice Zalatoris, Ted Bedwell, Nancy Voell, Theresa and Gregory Anderson, Elmer Fudd (aka Mike Hillman), Gretchen Lord

Call to Order
It began at 7:36 and was presided over by Joe Humberton, with Dan Failacci as secretary.

Approval of Previous Minutes:
September Booster Meeting minutes approved.
President’s Report:  Executive Board met for October.  
  • Indoor budget to be finalized by the end of the month
  • Possibly an extra show in Richmond for percussion
  • Jazz Night 5/19.  Mr Kurtz (new AMS teacher) will run the show  It will still  be a booster fundraiser otherwise
Vice President’s Report:  Teresa found someone to help out with the banquet.  Details to come out soon.

Secretary:  It takes an army to make this band operation run and every little thing helps.  If you are not currently volunteering or don’t know where to start or who to ask – send me an email and I will get you to the right place.  Every week there is something going on with the band and we can always use extra help.  Also, make sure to record your hours when you do volunteer as I will be collecting them later in the school year.

  • For August:  ~25k incoming, ~12k outgoing.  Most of both directions was paying for Disney deposits.  See Dana for specific details.
  • Dana still missing a number of outstanding invoices.
Directors Report:
  • Thank you to all those that chipped in to help this weekend
  • 50 kids participated in move-up night Friday night and participated in the football game
  • All county band forms due 10/10 7:30 am.  (Too late if you are reading these now and didn’t know)
  • Tri-M Music Honor Society open to Sophomores and above.  Applications due Friday 10/13
  • Monday 10/16 is all county music festival in Walkersville.  Band is on early.  Kids can stay at school and load time is 3pm.  Need all hands on deck to help due to the early timing.
Student Accounts:
There are still a few outstanding fees for outdoor season.  Don’t forget to apply for scholarship if you owe money.

Committee Reports

  • Coupon books are “done”, but there are still 15 books available to sell.  Cost is $25 - $11 goes into student account.  So far students have made $891, general fund $125.50.
  • Sheets – Any size $40.  First set goes towards the band, every set after the first one goes towards students account ($10/set).  There will be a pizza party for every student that participates.  Due Thursday 10/12.  Don’t miss out.
  • Mattress Fundraiser – Due to the wonderful turnout, general fund made $5385 and about $740 to students ($6110 total).  There were 40 mattresses in total sold and 27 were coupon related to the band.  Traci would like to know if your student got any mattress money in their account, did the family buy a mattress?  Please let Traci know for next year.
  • Poinsettia/Wreaths – Info should be coming out this evening in email.  See Dawn Vargas
  • Wine Tasting 11/5 @ Spin the Bottle.  Tickets are $10/each.  Would like to surpass last year’s 84 tickets sold.  Nido’s restaurant night (across the street) same night.  Sample some nice wine then walk to Nido’s and have some great Italian food.
  • Mixed bag (reusable grocery-type bag) 11/4.  See Kate Dudash.
  • Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast 11/18.  Would like each student to sell 2 tickets.  See Jamie Hendi for details.
  • Breakfast with Santa – 12/9
  • Great Pumpkin Patch – helping the boy scouts.  10/14-15.  Help needed for setup/cleanup.  Will also take donations (soda, chips, etc) and volunteer help.  Sign up genius out and we still need help.  Check your email for a link to the sign-up genius to see where you can help out.
Uniform Report:
Looking for ways to secure the new shako’s in their new clear boxes.  
Aussies being sold to a band starting up in southern California.

Pit Crew report:
Big THANK YOU for all of the volunteer help for Friday and Saturday.  Will be working on prop repairs this weekend.  See emails for details on when and where to help.

Other Events:  
  • Bus to Nationals – Accepting payments now for seats on the bus to Nationals.  $50/adult and $30/child under 14.  Meals are $5.  Approximately 45 seats left.  See Dawn Humbertson
  • Trunk or Treat – October 30
  • Scholarship forms due 10/19
  • Pictures will be Saturday 10/14 at practice.  Order forms for pictures came home tonight
  • 10/20 is Senior night.  Seniors are recognized on the field before the game starts.  There is a banquet in the cafeteria.  Non senior parents are asked to make something to bring.  Signup Genius is out.  See Jill Philips for details
  • 10/21 - States at Townsend University.  Tickets are $23 from Joe before and $27 @ gate.
  • 10/28 - Marine Corp Invitational.  Tickets are $24 from Joe and $28 @ gate.
  • 11/4 is Homecoming at Frederick High.  Possibly a parade from TJ to Frederick High
  • 11/11 Nationals at Met Life stadium in East Rutherford NJ

March 17 we are hosting the KIDA Indoor show.  Mandatory meeting and Mike is looking for volunteers.  This is a big fundraiser and is really for the marching band.  Talk to Mike Hillman to find out how you can help
Light up bracelets.  Need a 1-2 volunteers to sell at next football game.  See Theresa Vaughn
